The purpose of this module: the learner to acquire Basic mathematical concepts in order to prepare for the advanced courses and acquiring positive attitude, knowledge and skills which will be relevant to her/his life in the university.

The purpose is to equip students with data collection skills, correlations, analysis, hypothesis formulation and testing methods. The objectives are for students to learn skills such as computing correlation coefficients, regression analysis, hypothesis testing and non-parametric statistics. The course content is spread out over 14 weeks covering topics such as correlation, regression, sampling, hypothesis testing, tests of proportions and non-parametric methods. Students will be evaluated through exams, a tutorial assignment and a final exam.

The main objectives of this course; the learner should be able: Develop a positive attitude towards learning mathematics. Perform mathematical operations and manipulations with confidence, speed and accuracy. Think and reason precisely, logically and critically in any given situation. Develop investigative skills in mathematic. Identify , concretize , symbolize and use mathematical skills in everyday real life situations. Apply mathematical skills in familiar and unfamiliar situations in problem solving
