Sensation refers to the initial detection of stimuli by sensory receptors, while perception is the brain's interpretation and organization of those sensations, leading to conscious experience.
Sensation is a bottom-up process, where information flows from the senses to the brain, while perception is a top-down process, where prior knowledge and expectations influence how the brain interprets sensory information
